Open Space

When viewing a satellite image of the Peninsula, there is an obvious distinction between the east and west sides of the Santa Cruz Mountains.  On the west, there have been extensive efforts to maintain open space to preserve native habitat while providing recreational and educational opportunities for people of all ages.  On the east, development sprawl covers the land, though open spaces still do exist.

The San Francisco Bay Area is an incredible place to live and work, resulting in the difficult task of preserving open space while also meeting the needs of a sprawling metropolitan population.  The following organizations are a few of the many involved in this balancing act:
